About the Event

We are looking for students in grades 7-12, who would like to apply for a theater or tech assistantship for THE LION KING JR. Students in grade 6 can also apply for an administrative assistant position. See below for application form and descriptions.

Theater Assistantship: STUDENT ASSISTANT  

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12)

Student Assistants work closely with the show’s artistic team. Under their  guidance, students learn and assist with all aspects of the production and providing a fun, high quality theater experience for the cast. Duties may include  leading games, overseeing breaks, modeling choreography, assisting cast with singing, blocking, making props, and supervising the movement of groups between activities. Student Assistants are expected to attend all relevant rehearsals and communicate any conflicts with the director and production manager. Grade level must be appropriate to the age of the show participants.

Theater Assistantship: STUDENT ASSISTANT COSTUME DESIGNER

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12)

Student Assistant Costume Designers work closely with the show’s costume designer. Under the costume designer’s guidance, students observe, learn and explore all aspects of the position including studying the script; working with the director to learn the vision for the show; making a costume plot; and designing, selecting and approving all costumes for all characters. Student Assistants will communicate with the costume designer to come up with a schedule of attendance and are expected to attend all relevant rehearsals. The student is responsible for communicating any conflicts with the costume designer and production manager.

Theater Assistantship: STUDENT ASSISTANT MAKEUP/HAIR DESIGNER

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12)

Student Assistant Makeup/Hair Designers work closely with the show’s costume designer. Under the costume designer’s guidance, students observe, learn and explore all aspects of the position including studying the script, working with the director to learn the vision for the show, creating a makeup chart based on characterization, color and the style of the show, applying and/or supervising the application of makeup during dress rehearsals and performance. Student Assistants will communicate with the costume designer to come up with a schedule of attendance and are expected to attend all relevant rehearsals. The student is responsible for communicating any conflicts with the costume designer and production manager.

Theater Assistantship: STUDENT PROPS ASSISTANT

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12)

Student Assistant Props Designers work closely with the show’s props master. Under the props master’s guidance, students observe, learn and explore all aspects of the position including studying the script, working with the director to learn the vision for the show, designing, building and pulling props, organizing the props table, and making repairs during the run of the show if needed. Student Assistants will communicate with the costume designer to come up with a schedule of attendance and are expected to attend all relevant rehearsals. The student is responsible for communicating any conflicts with the props master and production manager.

Theater Assistantship: STUDENT ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT 

The Lion King JR. (Grades 6-12)

Student Administrative Assistants work closely with the show’s production manager. Under the production manager’s guidance, students will help with various aspects of running an office. Duties might include filing, copying, sorting, and conducting an inventory. Student Assistants will communicate with the production manager to come up with a schedule of attendance. Students are expected to attend all relevant rehearsals and communicate any conflicts with the production manager.

Tech Assistantship: STAGE CREW

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12)

Stage Crew members are supervised by the show’s stage manager. Crew members will be assigned to various positions including light board operator, spotlight operator, and run crew. Being a stage crew member is a good starting position for students interested in working in all behind the scenes aspects of a production. Students are expected to attend all tech rehearsals, performances, and strike. The student is responsible for communicating any conflicts with the technical director and stage manager.

Tech Assistantship: STUDENT LIGHTING ASSISTANT 

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12, prerequisite required)

To apply for the Student lighting assistant position, students must have previously taken one of Stages basic lighting classes; or have other approved relevant experience. Student Lighting assistants work closely with the show’s Lighting Designer. Students observe, learn and explore all aspects of the position including the design, installation and operation of the show’s lighting used to enhance each scene. Students are expected to attend all lighting setup dates, tech rehearsals, performances, and strike. The student is responsible for communicating any conflicts with the technical director and stage manager.

Tech Assistantship: STUDENT SOUND ASSISTANT 

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12, prerequisite required)

To apply for the Student Sound Assistant position, students must have previously taken one of Stages basic sound classes; or have other approved relevant experience. . They will work closely with the show’s technical director and Sound Designer. Students observe, learn and explore all aspects of the position including creating a cue list, mic’ing, programming and operating the sound board and finding/creating sound effects, Students are expected to attend all tech rehearsals, performances, and strike. The student is responsible for communicating any conflicts with the technical director and stage manager.

Tech Assistantship: STUDENT ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

The Lion King JR. (Grades 7-12, prerequisite required)

To apply for the Student Assistant Stage Manager position, students must have previously taken one of Stages basic stage management classes; or have other approved relevant experience. Student Assistant Stage Managers work closely with the show’s stage manager. Under the stage manager’s guidance, students observe, learn and explore all aspects of the position: supporting and organizing the director, actors, designers and stage crew through tech week and performances. Students are expected to attend all tech rehearsals, performances, and strike. The student is responsible for communicating any conflicts with the technical director and stage manager.
